Here, we sit down with funded traders who transform setbacks, screen time, and discipline into consistent payouts and meaningful growth. Today’s spotlight features Maruf Yusupov and Maurice Muthama. These two traders follow very different paths in the funded trading industry, yet both reach similar conclusions about risk management, mindset, and trading strategies that withstand real market volatility. Their stories show what’s possible within our prop trading community when traders treat trading as a business, not a gamble. By relying on tools, clear rules, and educational resources, they grow within structured, funded trader programs.

Quick Summary Box

Maruf Yusupov has spent three years moving from crypto liquidity pools to Forex and commodities, building a backtested strategy that’s earned him a place among our successful traders. Maurice Muthama, a Nasdaq-focused price action trader since 2021, blew multiple funded accounts before patience and process unlocked his edge. In this article, both share the trading strategies, trading journals, habits, and right mindset shifts that helped them pass the trading challenge, protect their funded trading account balances, and grow inside our funded trader programs at this prop firm, plus the actionable insights any trader can apply this week to build confidence and start tracking performance with clear expectations.

Trader Maruf: “Failing an account isn’t the end of the world — turn off your emotions and follow your strategy robotically.”

<colgroup><col /><col /><col /></colgroup>

Total Payouts

Duration as a Trader with FundingTraders

# of Accounts Purchased

$1342.75

6 months

5

You started in crypto liquidity pools and eventually moved into Forex and commodities. Walk us through how that journey shaped the way you approach funded trading today.

I’ve been trading for around three years now. I first started with crypto, specifically with liquidity pools. Eventually, I transitioned into actively trading cryptocurrencies. From there, I moved into Forex, and then later expanded into trading commodities as well.

You’ve spoken about treating your trading like a robot. What was the specific mindset shift that helped you finally pass the trading challenge and protect your funded accounts?

The biggest mindset shift was no longer fearing the loss of an account. I turned off my emotions and followed my strategy robotically. If my strategy fails, I go back to the drawing board and improve it. If you buy a $50K account for $100–$200 and that amount of money means a lot to you, you’ll be scared to lose it. That fear affects your decisions. Learning to detach emotionally and trust the strategy was the biggest shift.

You backtested nine years of gold data. How does that level of preparation shape the way you manage risk during winning and losing streaks?

My strategy is strong, but I still expect losses because no strategy wins all the time. During losing streaks, I trust my system. I’ve backtested my strategy extensively, specifically on gold, across nine years of data from 2015 to 2026. Because of this, I know the maximum number of consecutive losses my strategy can realistically have. During winning streaks, I also stay emotionally neutral. The key is to trust your strategy and not let emotions interfere with your execution.

Were there setbacks before you became consistently funded, and what helped you push through them on the way to passing your trader evaluation?

Yes, I faced setbacks, especially with trailing drawdown rules. Trailing drawdowns create pressure because once you take a loss, your margin becomes tighter. Another challenge was being emotionally attached to the money I paid for the account. What helped me push through was buying accounts with money that I could afford to lose emotionally. If you treat that money as already spent and emotionally detached from it, it becomes easier to trade properly. You should avoid putting emotional pressure on yourself as a trader, because emotions interfere with the profitability of your strategy.

For you, what does true day-to-day consistency look like behind the screen, and what role do trading journals play in keeping you on track?

Consistency means following your strategy exactly as designed without letting emotions interfere. Consistency is about discipline, emotional control, and trusting the statistical edge of your strategy over time.

What’s the costliest mistake from your trading journey, and what would you tell traders making the same one right now?

One mistake that taught me the most was impulsivity and lack of discipline. I had a profitable strategy, but I would sometimes see different strategies on social media and try them without properly testing them. This turned my equity curve into a roller coaster, even though my backtested equity curve was steadily rising. Once I stopped doing that and fully committed to my strategy, my performance became much more consistent.

What’s your message to a trader who’s one losing streak away from quitting?

Never ever give up. This world is for survivors.

Maruf’s edge isn’t a secret indicator, it’s removing the emotional weight from every account he buys. The cheapest way to detach? Start on a bigger account where the rules, profit targets, and risk parameters give your strategy room to breathe. Scale Week is live April 21–27: use code SCALE50 at checkout for 50% off all $100k+ accounts and trade with the kind of headroom that lets your edge play out. 👉 Start your evaluation here.

Trader Maurice : “I cannot control whatever the market does — so I control what’s in my reach: technical analysis and patience.”

<colgroup><col /><col /><col /></colgroup>

Total Payouts

Duration as a Trader with FundingTraders

# of Accounts Purchased

$856.87

17 months

2

You got into trading post-COVID through your friends. What did that mindset shift look like in practice when you sat down at the charts?

The biggest shift happened when I learned that I cannot control whatever the market does, so I have to control things that are in my reach. e.g., technical analysis and patience to let my edge play out in the long run.

You blew multiple accounts before getting funded. What kept you coming back to the screens through those tough stretches?

I faced setbacks and blew so many accounts, but I still knew there was light at the end of the tunnel. I started practicing patience, waiting for my setup to present itself without feeling like the market is moving without me.

What’s the single mistake that taught you the most as a trader, and what kind of strong habits did it force you to build?

Not being patient to wait for my setup or patience to allow my trades to play out, instead I closed my positions early before hitting my targets and allowing my losers to run.

What’s your actionable advice to a trader on the edge of giving up on funded trading?

I’d tell them not to quit but instead focus on the process rather than the end goal. My biggest shift was when I learned there are factors that I can’t control, and I should only work on things that I can control. e.g., technical analysis or patience for my setup to appear. I’d also ask them to keep back testing on the weekends to gain confidence in their analysis.

Walk us through your edge, favorite symbol, style, and how you actually break down a trade from the daily down to the entry timeframe.

My favorite symbol is the Nasdaq. I trade pure price action with a top-down analysis since price is fractal. Starting on the daily timeframe is gonna tell me what to expect on a new trading day as long as my draw on liquidity hasn’t been reached. I use the hourly timeframe for structure and m15 or m5 for my entries.

Notice the pattern across both funded traders? Different markets, different timeframes, same obsession with structure, patience, and clear rules. That’s the lifestyle a real prop firm is built to reward. A 4% month on a $25k account pays rent. A 4% month on a $200k account changes your life. The strategy doesn’t change; the account size does. This week, scaling up just got 50% cheaper: use code SCALE50 for 50% off every $100k+ account through April 27. 👉 Claim your discounted evaluation.

Conclusion

These two Funded Trader Insights stories converge on a single truth: funded trading rewards traders who stop trying to outsmart the market and start trusting a process they can repeat, whether they’re hunting setups in the London session or a quiet range-bound Nasdaq morning. Maruf’s nine years of backtested gold data and Maurice’s patient, top-down read of price action look different on the surface, but both plans rest on the same pillars: discipline, real risk management, structured trading journals, trading journals reviews after each session, and the emotional control to follow clear rules even when volatility spikes. That’s the model we build confidence around at this company: transparent profit targets, fair daily loss limits, transparent rules, performance metrics you can actually act on, and the educational resources, trading platforms, and community needed to turn a single trading challenge into a long-term job on larger accounts with real capital. If you’re ready to get involved, your next trading journal entry could be the one that connects your effort to your first payout.

What’s the trader you’ll be 12 months from now actually doing differently?
