This edition brings two traders whose routes into prop trading share nothing but the destination: Taylor Hipwell, eighteen months in, and Hamed Yousefi, four years deep and still refining one process. Their experience covers blown accounts, the risk of forcing setups, and the research that turns a strategy into a routine. What follows is an honest insight into their data, their habits, and the mindset shift that made screen time pay.

Quick Summary Box

Two funded traders, one shared conclusion. Taylor Hipwell keeps a day-trading schedule on XAUUSD and AUDCHF, crediting patience over volume. Hamed Yousefi works gold through session overlaps, on top-down structure and emotional control. Between them: the evaluation process, risk management under pressure, trading journals, and what it takes to manage funded accounts once the trading challenge is behind you. Both respond to a losing streak the same way: fewer trades, tighter rules, better information. My style is day trading as I think this is the perfect balance of patience but also not having to wait days for your setup to play out. My best trades are when I don’t panic or get worried that it won’t hit my tp but also not being too greedy and going for unrealistic rr trades.

Nothing exotic there. A written stop loss, a target he does not touch, patience to let the setup finish. It is the standard funded account rules enforce from outside, which is why traders who respect their own limits find evaluation accounts less hostile.

What the Data Says About Trading Less

Taylor’s fix was subtraction. A journal that documents every entry gives you something to argue with, and a week reviewed honestly tells the story you hear at every stage: most of the damage came from trades that were never in the plan. Your real competitors are not other traders. They are the version of you who opens a position out of boredom.

Worth a note: the data most traders never collect is behavioral. Broker reports show entries, exits, and position sizing. They do not show what you were thinking the second before you click. That gap is where trading psychology lives. Neither trader went looking for quick solutions. In order to survive a losing run you need rules that hold when confidence does not, which is what drawdown limits and daily loss limits enforce before you place the trade.

Trader Hamed Yousefi: “Stay away from emotional decisions as much as possible.”

You did not start in forex. Walk us through the route.

I have been trading in various financial markets, especially Forex, for about 4 years and started with crypto. At the beginning of my journey, I was professionally buying and selling Shiba and Dogecoin coins and trading volatility. But later I started working with brokers and then I got acquainted with prop trading companies

What changed when you stopped hunting for a better strategy?

I started making money when I realized that success in trading does not only depend on finding a good strategy. In addition to education, risk and capital management issues, having trading discipline and, most importantly, controlling emotions, play a huge role in good and sustainable results.

For this reason, in my trading, I try to have a clear stop loss, risk level and exit conditions before entering and stay away from emotional decisions as much as possible.

What stood between you and real funding?

Yes, the fear of losing capital is a failure factor for a trader, but by learning the technical points and psychology of financial markets, this fear can be overcome

Early on you collected strategies. What did that cost you?

My biggest mistake was learning several different strategies at the beginning of the journey, while after a while I learned that I had to learn and optimize one strategy

What do you tell traders who are ready to quit?

Trading is full of different experiences. Naturally, part of this path is accompanied by mistakes, losses and loss of capital, but these experiences make our view of the market change a lot.

Symbol, sessions, timeframes: what has to line up before you enter?

I work professionally in the gold symbol. In the London and New York sessions, the timeframe I use is as follows: in the 4-hour and 1-hour time frame (depending on the market volume), I examine the market trend and mark the important areas in terms of my personal strategy. In the 15-minute time frame, I look at the formation and how the price reaches the areas I have previously specified. In the 5-minute and sometimes one-minute time frame, I enter the trade with confirmation and an entry trigger. Of course, I should also tell you that all of the above depends heavily on the market volume. Fundamental discussions and daily news for the dollar index also have a lot to do with it. My analytical style is mostly based on process action, which is specific to me, as well as triggers and trading patterns. Of course, I also follow the important fundamental discussions and news, and I try to enter the trade only when the conditions required by my trading system are met.

Notice what is missing. No indicator worship, no forecasting. He built a process he can repeat and let the rules decide, which is the profile a prop firm screens for.

The Research Behind Two Different Routines

Side by side, the overlap is obvious. Neither found an edge by reading more opinions; both found it by narrowing. Taylor cut trades, Hamed cut strategies. Same application of one principle. In addition, neither trades every day.

Real expertise in proprietary trading looks less like prediction and more like scholarship: repetition, review, and a willingness to be wrong on paper before being wrong with capital. The market is the only university that charges tuition before it teaches, and traders who treat themselves as researchers of their own behaviour graduate faster. Few fields reward restraint so directly.

Hamed’s routine is the example: higher timeframes for structure, lower for the trigger, with technical analysis deciding the areas of the chart and fundamental analysis deciding whether to be involved at all. He watches the U.S. dollar index because gold markets respond to it, and stands aside when central bank decisions or the monthly jobs report turn currency markets into noise. Taylor gets there differently: wait for confluence, protect the risk-to-reward, stop managing the trade. Both work from a plan based on structure, not hope.

Collaboration matters too. Inside the FundingTraders community, communities form around shared rules, and members watching the same bids and offers compare journals in the open. Firms like this act as funders of skilled traders; the firm behind the capital only benefits when the trader lasts. Access to funded capital does not create discipline. A funded account reveals whether it was already there, which is the point of the funded stage.

Practical note. Payout eligibility, profit split terms, account types, and platform questions are documented and supported by the help centre, and the rule set is worth reading before you need it. Same for verification steps, withdrawal timelines, trading hours, and account updates. Details are subject to change, so check the date on anything you read, this article included. If you are unsure how a payout is calculated or when you receive it, contact the team by email. Before high-impact events, download the calendar and note the news releases. AI tools promise to read charts, but charting platforms matter only once your rules do.

Consistency Is the Whole Edge

Two routes, one conclusion: consistency is a decision you make when it is boring. Taylor got there by waiting, Hamed by simplifying. Neither found a shortcut and neither quit. That is the takeaway from this edition of Funded Insights.

FundingTraders exists to fund traders who have already done the unglamorous work: the journal, the review, the rules kept when nobody watches. The platform and the tools are here. Traders like Taylor and Hamed show what happens when discipline arrives before capital. If that is the trading career you want, our funded traders started where you are, and becoming a funded trader begins with one decision. Join the community, start an evaluation, and let the future of your account be set by process, not mood. The next funded trader in this series started on an ordinary Monday.

You do not need a better week.
