Choosing what size prop firm account to buy is a risk decision before it is a price decision. This guide is for traders about to start a FundingTraders challenge or Instant Funding account and weighing the prop firm account sizes from 5K to 200K. It helps you decide which size leaves room in the daily loss limit for more than one normal loss. Every loss limit on a FundingTraders account is a percentage of the account size, so a bigger account multiplies the dollars without changing the rules. The tables below show those dollars at every size. All FundingTraders accounts are simulated accounts.
What size prop firm account fits your risk?
Pick the size whose dollar daily loss can take two of your normal losses with room to spare, not the biggest size on offer. The rules are percentages, so a bigger account is not an easier one.
In practice, what size prop firm account fits you depends on one test: the smallest size where your normal loss on a failed trade idea is 1% of the account or less, because the fee and the dollar target both rise with size. A $250 loss is 1% of 25K, where the 3% daily loss on 2-Step Pro6 or 1-Step Pro is $750; a $500 loss is 1% of 50K, where it is $1,500.
That 1% is the rule of thumb in FundingTraders’ Toxic Trading Practices article: “keep risk per trade idea around 1% of account balance”. At 1% per idea (at the starting balance), two full losses stay under a 3% daily loss at every size: two $50 losses against $150 at 5K, two $2,000 losses against $6,000 at 200K. A third would land exactly on the limit, and the Pro help articles say equity or balance “must not reach” it, so touching it is already a breach. On Instant Funding, 1% is the floating-loss limit itself and it counts all open trades together, so keep their combined loss below it.
Your trading style sets your stop distance, your risk tolerance caps the dollars you lose at it, and the account size only decides what percent that loss is.
What changes with account size, and what does not
In the trading rules, only the dollars change. Every FundingTraders target, loss limit and consistency score is the same percentage at 5K and at 200K; the different rules belong to the products, not the sizes.
Same percentages at every size
The 2-Step Pro help article and the 1-Step Pro help article set the evaluation rules for the Pro accounts, and the Instant Funding help article sets the Instant Funding rules. Every size of a product shares the same profit targets and limits:
| Rule | 2-Step Pro6 | 2-Step Pro10 | 1-Step Pro | Instant Funding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Profit target | 6%, then 6% | 10%, then 5% | 10% | None |
| Daily loss | 3% | 5% | 3% | 3% |
| Max loss | 6%, static | 10%, static | 10%, trailing | 6%, trailing, then locked |
| Consistency score (a payout gate, not a breach) | None | None | 50% | 15% |
| Default profit split | 80% | 80% | 90% | See the Instant note below |
The consistency score caps your largest profit day as a share of total profit: 50% on 1-Step Pro and 15% on Instant Funding. Above that share, you keep trading until you are back within it before you can request a payout. Checkout add-ons can raise the Pro split; account size does not change it.
Instant Funding’s max loss is 6% of the account size below the highest recorded balance, trailing until 3% profit, then locked at the initial account size. On a FundingTraders Instant Funding account, weekend and news holding, the profit split, payout timing and any lot limit depend on the account and the add-ons chosen at checkout, so check the Instant Funding help article before you trade.
Dollar limits from 5K to 200K
Find your row and read across: each cell shows that product’s drawdown limits in dollars, daily loss first, then max loss.
| Account size | 2-Step Pro6 (3% / 6%, static) | 2-Step Pro10 (5% / 10%, static) | 1-Step Pro (3% / 10%, trailing) | Instant Funding (3% / 6%, trails then locks) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5,000 | $150 / $300 | $250 / $500 | $150 / $500 | $150 / $300 |
| $10,000 | $300 / $600 | $500 / $1,000 | $300 / $1,000 | $300 / $600 |
| $25,000 | $750 / $1,500 | $1,250 / $2,500 | $750 / $2,500 | $750 / $1,500 |
| $50,000 | $1,500 / $3,000 | $2,500 / $5,000 | $1,500 / $5,000 | $1,500 / $3,000 |
| $100,000 | $3,000 / $6,000 | $5,000 / $10,000 | $3,000 / $10,000 | $3,000 / $6,000 |
| $200,000 | $6,000 / $12,000 | $10,000 / $20,000 | $6,000 / $20,000 | $6,000 / $12,000 |
Every figure is the percent times the account size you buy, so each step up multiplies the loss limits without moving a rule.

The daily loss is a percent of the account size, counted down from where the day starts. In the 2-Step Pro help example, a $100,000 account that starts the day at $107,000 must not drop to $104,000 (3% of $100,000, not of $107,000) at any point in the day, not only at end of day.
Static or trailing: why the same dollar max loss behaves differently
The max loss sets a floor: the level your equity and balance must stay above. A static floor stays put; a trailing floor follows your highest balance up. On a 50K account, 2-Step Pro10 and 1-Step Pro both carry a $5,000 maximum drawdown. On Pro10 the max loss “is fixed and does not trail higher when you’re in profit”, so the floor stays at $45,000; on 1-Step Pro it sits 10% of the account size below the highest recorded balance, so it climbs with every new high. That is the difference between trailing and static drawdown, and the product you pick decides it.
Risk per trade at each account size
Position sizing is where account size shows up in your trading. Of the risk limits, the dollar daily loss sets the ceiling, and your risk per trade idea decides how many losses fit under it. FundingTraders caps risk at 2% of the account per trade idea on its Pro accounts: on 2-Step Pro the cap applies in the funded phase only, and on 1-Step Pro in the challenge and funded phases.
Running multiple accounts does not change the per-account math: each account’s daily and max loss are percentages of its own size, so no matter how many accounts you hold, size each trade idea for the account it is on. The Toxic Trading Practices article also prohibits buying multiple evaluations and risking big on each until one pays out.
The 1% and 2% lines in dollars, 5K to 200K
At the starting balance, the 1% line is $50 at 5K and $2,000 at 200K. On Pro10’s 5% daily loss, four full 1% losses stay under the limit at every size.
| Account size | 1% per trade idea (rule of thumb) | 2% per trade idea (Pro cap) | 3% daily loss (Pro6, 1-Step Pro) | 5% daily loss (Pro10) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5,000 | $50 | $100 | $150 | $250 |
| $10,000 | $100 | $200 | $300 | $500 |
| $25,000 | $250 | $500 | $750 | $1,250 |
| $50,000 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500 | $2,500 |
| $100,000 | $1,000 | $2,000 | $3,000 | $5,000 |
| $200,000 | $2,000 | $4,000 | $6,000 | $10,000 |
At the same percentage, larger accounts allow bigger dollar losses per trade idea, not more of them. At the 2% line, which on 2-Step Pro is a funded-phase cap only, one full loss stays under a 3% daily loss and the second breaks it. On Instant Funding, the 1% limit covers all open trades together: their combined floating loss must stay short of 1% of the initial balance, so size every trade you hold open at once to fit inside that 1% together, and the 2% column does not apply.
These counts assume every loss ends at your planned stop, which takes strict risk management. If you manage exits in your head, read our article on the mental stop loss first.
Worked example: one trader risking $200 per trade idea on a 2-Step Pro6 challenge at 10K, 25K and 50K
An illustration, not a recommendation: one trader runs the same strategy with the same order size and loses $200 per failed idea on a 2-Step Pro6 challenge (3% daily loss).
| Account size | Daily loss (3%) | $200 as a share of the account | Losses in one day that stay under it | Loss that breaks it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $300 | 2% | 1 ($200) | 2nd ($400) |
| $25,000 | $750 | 0.8% | 3 ($600) | 4th ($800) |
| $50,000 | $1,500 | 0.4% | 7 ($1,400) | 8th ($1,600) |
At 10K, $200 is 2%: twice the 1% rule of thumb, and equal to FundingTraders’ Pro cap per trade idea, which on 2-Step Pro applies in the funded phase only.

Same trader, same trade, same $200: the bigger account made that risk a smaller percentage, but the 6% Pro6 target grew with it, from $600 per phase at 10K to $1,500 at 25K and $3,000 at 50K, so the same strategy needs more winning ideas to reach it. For this trader, 25K is the smallest size where $200 is under 1%. Do not plan a day around these counts: the Toxic Trading Practices article flags as Overexposure “coming within 0.5% of the product daily loss limit on 3 or more days in a rolling 30-day window”. The example does not apply to Instant Funding: its 1% floating-loss limit is $100 at 10K, so one $200 loss would break it.
25k vs 50k funded account: choosing a first size
If these two are your finalists, the 25k vs 50k funded account choice turns on your normal loss per trade idea, shown in the last row. Moving from 25K to 50K doubles every dollar figure in this table and changes no rule (the targets apply to the challenge phases only):
| In dollars | 25K | 50K |
|---|---|---|
| 2-Step Pro6: daily / max loss | $750 / $1,500 | $1,500 / $3,000 |
| 2-Step Pro6: targets | $1,500, then $1,500 | $3,000, then $3,000 |
| 2-Step Pro10: daily / max loss | $1,250 / $2,500 | $2,500 / $5,000 |
| 2-Step Pro10: targets | $2,500, then $1,250 | $5,000, then $2,500 |
| 1-Step Pro: daily / max loss (trailing) | $750 / $2,500 | $1,500 / $5,000 |
| 1-Step Pro: target | $2,500 | $5,000 |
| Instant Funding: daily / max (trails, then locks) / floating-loss limit | $750 / $1,500 / $250 | $1,500 / $3,000 / $500 |
| 1% per trade idea | $250 | $500 |
What a 25K challenge asks for in dollars
A 25k prop firm challenge on 2-Step Pro6 asks for $1,500 of simulated profit in each evaluation phase, with no day’s loss reaching $750 and no total loss reaching $1,500. FundingTraders caps risk at 2% of the account per trade idea on its Pro accounts. At 25K that is $500: on 2-Step Pro only once you hold a 25k funded account, and on 1-Step Pro in the challenge and funded phases. If your normal loss is $250 or less and you stop for the day after two of them, 25K fits.
Size does not change the minimum trading days on 2-Step Pro: by default, it needs at least 4 trading days in each challenge phase and 2 when funded. The 1-Step Pro help article sets the minimum trading days for each phase.
A 50K one-step challenge: the trailing limit in dollars
On a 50K 1 step challenge, which at FundingTraders means 1-Step Pro, the target is $5,000, the daily loss $1,500 and the max loss $5,000, measured as 10% of the account size below the highest recorded balance, so the floor starts at $45,000. In the 1-Step Pro help example, a highest recorded balance of $55,500 puts the max-loss level at $50,500, which is $500 above the starting balance.

The room under your balance is $5,000 at each new high and less after a pullback: a drop from $55,500 back to $50,500 reaches the floor while the account is still above its starting size.
Whichever product you choose, let your usual loss per trade idea decide: up to $250, 25K keeps it at 1% of the account or less; above $250 and up to $500, only 50K of the two does (on Instant Funding, keep the combined loss on open trades below those figures, because 1% is the floating-loss limit there).

100k and 200k funded accounts: when a bigger size makes sense
If you are asking what size prop firm account to step up to, use the same 1% test. A bigger size makes sense when your normal loss per trade idea, at the smallest position you are willing to trade, is more than 1% of the smaller account (1% or more on Instant Funding, where 1% is the floating-loss limit). A bigger size does not lower the bar to pass: the dollar target and the dollar loss limits grow together, so the percent move is the same. A size whose target tempts you to force trades or take bigger risks is the wrong size.
Goals on a 100k funded account in percent, not income
At 100K the challenge targets are 6% per phase ($6,000) on 2-Step Pro6, 10% then 5% ($10,000 and $5,000) on Pro10 and 10% ($10,000) on 1-Step Pro; Instant Funding has no target. You do not hit profit targets faster at 100K.
Once funded, a sound goal for a 100k funded forex account is a process goal: on a Pro account, risk $1,000 (1%) or less per trade idea and keep every day well clear of the daily loss ($3,000 on Pro6 or 1-Step Pro, $5,000 on Pro10). Funded accounts carry no profit target, and for funded traders a payout is a share of simulated profit (80% by default on 2-Step Pro, 90% on 1-Step Pro). No account size promises that profit.
200K: the largest size on the Pro accounts
$200,000 is the top size on 2-Step Pro6, 2-Step Pro10 and 1-Step Pro. On a prop firm 200k account the daily loss is $6,000 on Pro6 and 1-Step Pro and $10,000 on Pro10; the max loss is $12,000 on Pro6, $20,000 on Pro10 (both static) and $20,000 on 1-Step Pro (trailing). On the Pro accounts, the 1% test points to 200K for a normal loss above $1,000 and up to $2,000 per trade idea. For anything past $200,000, see the Sizes above 200K section below.
FundingTraders account sizes by product
Every FundingTraders account on this ladder is simulated, whether in a prop firm evaluation or once funded. Once you have chosen the product and know what size prop firm account your stop needs, find the row: 2-Step Pro6, 2-Step Pro10 and 1-Step Pro top out at $200,000, and Instant Funding adds $400,000.
| Account size | 2-Step Pro6 | 2-Step Pro10 | 1-Step Pro | Instant Funding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5,000 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| $10,000 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| $25,000 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |

| $400,000 | No | No | No | Yes |

On a FundingTraders Instant Funding account, weekend and news holding, the profit split, payout timing and any lot limit depend on the account and the add-ons chosen at checkout, so check the Instant Funding help article before you trade.
The smallest sizes, $5,000 and $10,000, use the same percentages as the larger sizes of each product.
If funded trading is new to you, start with how to become a funded trader, then compare the FundingTraders account types.
Sizes above 200K: 250K, 300K, 400K, 500K and 1 million
$400,000 is the largest size FundingTraders sells, on Instant Funding only. FundingTraders sells no 250K, 300K, 500K or 1 million account. Past the size you buy, the route FundingTraders documents is its scaling plan: “your account can grow by 25% every two consecutive profitable months, up to a maximum of $2,000,000.” FundingTraders’ scaling help article does not say which account types qualify. No size above $400,000 can be bought at checkout.
How to choose your account size: a five-point checklist
Checks 3 and 4 pick the product, so settle them first; checks 1, 2 and 5 then pick the size on it. Work through all five and you know what size prop firm account to buy.

- Your stop fits the daily loss. Your trading strategy and market conditions set the stop distance; pick the smallest size where your usual loss per trade idea is 1% of the account or less (below 1% on Instant Funding, where 1% is the floating-loss limit on all open trades combined). If that points to a bigger size than you planned, either buy that size or cut the position size until the loss meets the same test on the smaller one; do not tighten the stop just to make it fit.
- A fee you can afford to lose. Evaluation fees rise with size, and higher fees buy bigger dollar limits under the same rules. Treat the fee as money at substantial risk: pick one you could lose without feeling you have to win it back. Prices are in our guide to the cheapest prop firms.
- One phase or two. Choose 1-Step Pro, 2-Step Pro or Instant Funding (no challenge) first, then the size. For one-step programs across firms, see our list of the best 1-step prop firms.
- Static or trailing. 2-Step Pro6 and Pro10 keep a fixed floor, 1-Step Pro trails the highest recorded balance, and Instant Funding trails until 3% profit, then locks at the initial account size. On a trailing floor, the room left is the distance from your current balance down to the floor under your highest recorded balance (on Instant Funding, until it locks), not the distance from the starting size.
- Payout minimums on small sizes. On the Pro accounts, the Requesting a Payout help article sets $200 by Rise bank transfer and $50 by USDT (crypto only where Rise is not an option). A $200 payout is the trader’s share of $250 of simulated profit at the 80% default on 2-Step Pro, or of about $222 at 90% on 1-Step Pro; a $50 USDT payout is the share of $62.50 at 80%, or about $55.56 at 90%. That $250 is 5% of a $5,000 account, so smaller accounts need a bigger percent move to reach it. These figures cover the Pro accounts only; for Instant Funding, check the payout section of the Instant Funding help article.
FAQ
Does a bigger prop firm account make the challenge easier?
No. Targets and loss limits are the same percentages at every size, so a bigger account multiplies the dollar target and the dollar limits together: at 1% per trade idea, two full losses stay under a 3% daily loss at 5K and at 200K alike.
Is a 25K or 50K account better for a first challenge?
Neither by default. If your usual loss per trade idea is $250 or less, 25K keeps it at 1% or under; if it sits between $250 and $500, only 50K of the two does. Either way, pick a fee you can afford to lose.
What is the largest account FundingTraders sells?
$400,000, on Instant Funding only. 2-Step Pro6, 2-Step Pro10 and 1-Step Pro top out at $200,000, and FundingTraders sells no 250K, 300K, 500K or 1 million account.
Can a funded account grow past the size you bought?
FundingTraders’ scaling plan says an account can grow by 25% every two consecutive profitable months, up to a maximum of $2,000,000. FundingTraders’ scaling help article does not say which account types qualify. Each increase is based on the original starting balance and needs at least 8% total profit across the two months, both of them profitable, with the account back at its initial balance when the increase is applied.
Do profit targets change with account size?
No. 2-Step Pro6 targets 6% then 6%, 2-Step Pro10 10% then 5% and 1-Step Pro 10% at every size, and Instant Funding has no profit target. Only the dollars move: a 1-Step Pro target is $1,000 at 10K and $10,000 at 100K.
Conclusion
To settle what size prop firm account to buy, work in dollars. Find the smallest size where your normal loss per trade idea is 1% of the account or less (below 1% on Instant Funding), so two full losses stay under the dollar daily loss, then confirm static or trailing, a fee you can afford to lose and, on Pro accounts, a payout minimum your size can reach. The rule percentages never change; only their dollars do.
